Gods Don't Announce Themselves

Date: 2026-04-28

You built all of this and you'll be buried faster than you were born.

Gods don't announce themselves, but I saw you. I felt you bleed into the rain and turn the sky to embers. I stood frozen on that pavement and you held me. I couldn't stay for long, your presence intimidated me, though I know you meant no harm.

I stand tall and I've spent my life looking down. For a moment you gave me back the sky. When I looked up at you the world felt infinite, the horizon distanced and the stars melted through the rain.

You're the only one I've stood beneath and felt small, I'm grateful for that. I'll let you hold me every time.

I fear the day they come for you. I know you wont fight and I'd hate to watch the massacre. You weren't required anymore. What sits below might stand a hundred years but it will never own the sky, it will always sit in your shadow.

To me you've always looked better than anything you've build, but those draw their curtains at night will not think of you, nobody will know your name.

Those people will not remember where you stood, but I will. I'll remember.
